Getting ready for Saturday!

composite_14106176694131

We always have fun at the Midway, and Saturday promises to be no exception! Maybe you heard Watts and The I Want You on Boston Emissions.  Maybe you heard Gene Dante and Mark Damon on Bay State Rock.  Maybe you’ve been eagerly awaiting the full length version of Badger the Figgs have just released on limited edition vinyl.

Maybe having all of that talent on one show just isn’t enough.  Maybe you need to win things.  Things like a big pile of Redbox gift cards. Tickets for the NY Skyride. Bowling for (up to) 6 people at Kings (that includes shoe rentals, by the way). 5 pounds of whole bean Death Wish Coffee, plus ground coffee, plus a cool t shirt, mug and Death Wish swag. A Newbury Comics gift certificate. A Mary Kay gift certificate. A signed photo of big Vince Wilfork from the Patriots.

Feeling more like an auction? We’ve got that, too.  Auctions for studio time. A Keurig brewer + case of coffee, a dinner cruise on Boston harbor with a hotel room. A 5 day/4 night Cancun vacation. A Gibson Les Paul Future Tribute.

Plus, we’ll have rare Figgs merch, a chance for you to win the handwritten lyric sheet to Pete Hayes’ “The Bar”  and freebies!

And all of the money raised at the show goes to the National MS Society!!

The cost of admission to all of this? $10.00.  Seriously!  Will we see you Saturday?

Live on WAAF!

We had a great time last night on WAAF! Thanks to Carmeltia and her crew for having us on!  JustBill came along with us and took some great shots of Gene and Mark in the studio (that’s Amanda in the background of Mark’s photo, wearing the CT scan looking shirt).

We’ve added the songs they performed last night to the SoundCloud playlist!  Give ’em a listen and get excited for Saturday night!

If you have a group with these fine folks, you just know it’s going to sound amazing:

Rod Van Stoli
Charles Hansen
Jonathan Screnci
John Sheeran
Melissa Gibbs

One part Aquanutz, one part Township, one part Kinks and one part Brown Boot gets something that sounds a bit like this:

Gymnasium bring their awesome rock to Crash Safely’s second night!  It’s shaping up to be a huge party, so make sure you’re front and center… you may need to warm up a bit before you head in!

Meet the Bands: Gene Dante and the Future Starlets

Like all of the bands participating in Crash Safely this year, the Starlets have been busy.  Mega busy. They’ve been releasing singles for “Hand Me Your Razors” and “We Are All Whores“, ran a successful campaign to get their next music video funded, Scott Patalano is playing a show with Mistle Thrush and Gene’s been rehearsing ( and looking fierce!) for AIDA.

How did you spend your summer vacation?

See the Starlets on Night 1 of Crash Safely.  Can’t wait for 9/27 for your fix?  We understand.  Gene will be performing on Bay State Rock 9/21 and bringing Mark from As the Sparrow along for sweet live harmonies!

Meet the Bands: The I Want You

Earlier this year, the I Want You made the Improper Bostonian’s Loud and Clear list of their favorite local acts.

They’re one of our favorites, too.  They even decked out in Teen Beat t-shirts at last year’s Crash Safely because they were sharing a bill with Cotton Candy.

Top Notch and First Rate.

We’re excited to have them back, especially during  Pete Hayes‘ night!

0806Feat_TheIWantYouPC1

Even more of a reason to love them? They’re new single! Produced by fellow Crash Safely participant Pete Weiss, they’ve decided to donate all money that comes in through Christmas 2014 for the single to Crash Safely! Pay what you want for your copy and it will all go to help patients with MS and support research to help end MS, too.

Catch them on Night 1 of Crash Safely with that warm, fuzzy feeling of having already given to a great cause twice over!

Meet the Studios: Woolly Mammoth Sound

Chances are good that you know someone who’s recorded at Woolly Mammoth Sound. Led by Neighborhoods singer and guitarist and sometimes Replacement Dave Minehan, Woolly’s been a welcoming place for all since its early days in the heart of the Fens.

Dave-M-2

Here’s your chance to add to Woolly’s impressive roster of clients and an opportunity to ask Dave if he hung out more with Tommy Stinson or Paul Westerberg at Boston Calling.

Bid on 4 hours of studio time with Dave at Woolly and remember to share any tasty bits of ‘Mats gossip with the rest of us, OK?
