the I want you

Getting ready for Saturday!

We always have fun at the Midway, and Saturday promises to be no exception! Maybe you heard Watts and The I Want You on Boston Emissions.  Maybe you heard Gene Dante and Mark Damon on Bay State Rock.  Maybe you’ve been eagerly awaiting the full length version of Badger the Figgs have just released on limited edition vinyl.

Maybe having all of that talent on one show just isn’t enough.  Maybe you need to win things.  Things like a big pile of Redbox gift cards. Tickets for the NY Skyride. Bowling for (up to) 6 people at Kings (that includes shoe rentals, by the way). 5 pounds of whole bean Death Wish Coffee, plus ground coffee, plus a cool t shirt, mug and Death Wish swag. A Newbury Comics gift certificate. A Mary Kay gift certificate. A signed photo of big Vince Wilfork from the Patriots.

Feeling more like an auction? We’ve got that, too.  Auctions for studio time. A Keurig brewer + case of coffee, a dinner cruise on Boston harbor with a hotel room. A 5 day/4 night Cancun vacation. A Gibson Les Paul Future Tribute.

Plus, we’ll have rare Figgs merch, a chance for you to win the handwritten lyric sheet to Pete Hayes’ “The Bar”  and freebies!

And all of the money raised at the show goes to the National MS Society!!

The cost of admission to all of this? $10.00.  Seriously!  Will we see you Saturday?

Meet the Bands: The I Want You 1

Earlier this year, the I Want You made the Improper Bostonian’s Loud and Clear list of their favorite local acts.

They’re one of our favorites, too.  They even decked out in Teen Beat t-shirts at last year’s Crash Safely because they were sharing a bill with Cotton Candy.

Top Notch and First Rate.

We’re excited to have them back, especially during  Pete Hayesnight!

Even more of a reason to love them? They’re new single! Produced by fellow Crash Safely participant Pete Weiss, they’ve decided to donate all money that comes in through Christmas 2014 for the single to Crash Safely! Pay what you want for your copy and it will all go to help patients with MS and support research to help end MS, too.

Catch them on Night  1 of Crash Safely with that warm, fuzzy feeling of having already given to a great cause twice over!

Kittehs! (I mean, posters!)

Have you seen the latest posters from Nicole Anguish at Daykamp Creative? Check ’em all out above!

We’re obviously big fans of cats.  If you head to the Crash Safely Instagram, you’ll see I’m not joking about that.  It’s possibly comprised of  75-80% cat photos.  Soon, you’ll be seeing these kittehs* all over  town.  Come up with creative names for them!  There may or may not be a prize in it for you for best cat name.

What do you mean “may?”

Speaking of prizes, Gibson started my morning off with a bit of a surprise.  I just happened to be home this morning when FedEx came around.  I wasn’t expecting anything, so I must have looked like I won the lottery when the delivery driver handed me this:

Well, the box that had this in it.

Well, the box that had this in it.

He was excited.  You’d think it was his guitar, he was so happy!  “That’s a great one,” he said, “beautiful color.  Enjoy!  Happy 4th!”

I did request a donation from Gibson, but I wasn’t expecting to hear back from them for a while.  I’ll take a surprise Les Paul delivery as confirmation that they want to help out! You’ll be able to bid on this beauty as the silent auctions are announced, and we’re planning on having this be something that will be picked up at one of the shows, so if you’re the lucky winner, you can start playing it immediately.  You could also take it with you to your studio time winnings as well, which we also keep adding to the list of winnable things.

*I know that's not how it's spelled.  It's cute.

Crash Safely 2014 Lineup

If you head to the main page, you’ll see photos of (almost) everyone involved in Crash Safely this year. What you don’t see, however, are the dates and lineups.  Where would you find that info? Maybe even some ticket links, because you want to be sure to be there?

Wait for it...

Wait for it…

Right here.

Crash Safely Night 1: 9/27

Midway Cafe, 21+, $10.00

(aka the day after my birthday, so you should really go)

       Hosted by Jake Jampel

Crash Safely Night 2: 10/10

Midway Cafe, 21+, $10.00

      Hosted by Cotton Candy

Crash Safely Night 3: 10/17

(aka the Mike Oliver special)

Middle East Upstairs, 18+, $12.00

    Hosted by D-Tension

We’ve spaced out the shows more this year, and two of them actually happen after the bikeMS ride in NYC. Why’s that? I realized that we don’t have to get our donations all in on the day of the ride, and October worked out nicely for these shows.  Awesome posters are on the way from Daykamp Creative as well.

Also new for this year: vacation-type prizes in silent auction!  I figure by October, we’ll all be yearning for 90 degree weather, so a 5-day stint in Cancun for two might be a sought after prize.  There’s a hot date you can win as a mini-staycation, with a dinner cruise for two on the Odyssey and a hotel to stay in afterwards.  Lots of studio time as always, and lots more fun things coming in every day.
